The first U.S. summer friendly of the season has arrived in Los Angeles. MLS’s new Expansion side, Los Angeles Football Club took on Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund last night at their brand new stadium, Banc of California Stadium. The game was a physical affair with no goals coming to half time. The second half was going into deja vu into the last 20 mins where LAFC scored first.

LAFC’s goal was a cross coming from Lee Nguyen and Aaron Kovar was able to connect with the cross while Dortmund’s Dominik Reimann spilled the shot and went in. 10 minutes later, Dortmund was able to equalize with Maximilian Philipp turning the defender and took a shot past LAFC’s Shaft Brewer.

The game ended in a 1-1 draw but it was a entertaining match for both teams. LAFC will be taking on D.C. United on Saturday while Dortmund will be resting until July for pre-season.

Borussia Dortmund endured one of their most difficult seasons in recent memory. Former manager, Thomas Tuchel, left at the end of last season. Dortmund decided to hire former Ajax manager Peter Bosz as his successor. It didn’t well for Bosz as he was sacked before the Winter break. Dortmund went thru a mid coaching change as they decided to hire former FC Köln manager Peter Stöger to finish off the rest of the season. Dortmund finished 4th which is very disappointing for the German club. Stöger decided to leave the club at the end of the season.

Dortmund looked for a manager that can control and mold their talented youngsters. No one perfect than former OGC Nice manager, Lucien Favre. Favre has helped the careers of Marco Reus, Marc-Andre Ter Stegen, and Mario Balotelli. Balotelli had a successful spell under Favre, where he scored 33 league goals in 55 league games. Favre was 42-24-33 at Nice. Favre will sign a two year deal for the 8 time Bundesliga champions.
